The Comic Book Legal Defense Fund has sent a letter to Enfield, Connecticut School District Superintendent Dr. Jeffrey Schumann voicing concern that the Board followed its own policy when it removed Matthew Loux’s award-winning graphic novel SideScrollers from high school summer reading lists. The missive urges the Board to rescind the ban and allow the graphic novel to return to the summer reading list where it was an option and not a requirement.
Earlier this month the Enfield School Board, acting on a parental complaint, removed the Harvey Award-nominated SideScrollers from the ninth grade summer reading list (see "'SideScrollers' Graphic Novel Removed From Summer Reading List"). The CBLDF is asking the Enfield School Board to put Sidescrollers back on the summer reading list and "restore freedom of choice to the parents of children in their school."
