Random House will publish Judd Winick's (Batwing, Catwoman, Justice League: Generation Lost) forthcoming original graphic novel series Hilo. Set for launch in Spring 2015, Hilo will be available in both print and ebook formats.
Targeting middle school audiences, Hilo revolves around the mundane and ordinary lives of D.J. and Gina. Their world, however, becomes increasingly complex as they discover Hilo, a strange boy who falls from the sky. Together, the trio adventure in space, battle robots, and have funny encounters with aliens throughout the galaxy.
Although perhaps better known to contemporary readers for his company work at DC Comics, Winick is no stranger to the non-superhero genre and creator-owned endeavors as both author and artist. The Eisner Award-nominated cartoonist's first work was with Oni and Image Comics back in the late 1990s. His first original graphic novel, Pedro and Me: Friendship, Loss, and What I Learned debuted in 2000 from Henry Holt and Company publishers.
Hilo will be released by Random House's Children's Book division, which recently received a 2013 Eisner Award nomination for Best Publication for Early Readers with Jennifer and Matthew Holm's Babymouse for President (see "2013 Eisner Nominations").
