Legendary artist Moebius and his sometimes collaborator Alejandro Jodorowsky lead a fantastic lineup of international creators who span the globe and are featured in Humanoids Inc Summer 2013 offerings.
Humanoids has a new edition of Moebius and Jodorowsky's first collaboration, The Eyes of the Cat. Originally published in French as "Les Yeux Du Chat" in 1978, the work received its first English translation in 1990's Taboo #4. Not until Humanoids released a deluxe, oversized edition in December 2011 was the story available again in English; however, this prestigious, 12" x 16" edition retailed for $69.95. Slated for June, The Eyes of the Cat returns as a standard format hardcover album, printed on special yellow paper to replicate the original. The 56-page book will be $34.95.
Keeping within the Moebius and Jodorowsky universe, Humanoids is also releasing The Incal Classic Collection 3: What Lies Beneath on May 1st. This limited edition of 999 copies is a super-oversized, deluxe hardcover measuring at 12" x 16". Following The Black Incal in January and The Luminous Incal in March, What Lies Beneath will be the fifth edition Humanoids Inc has published of this acclaimed text—in December 2010, a deluxe, limited edition, super-oversized, slipcased edition of the entire series was published. Subsequently, The Incal went into three printings as hardcover collections sans slipcase in regular format. What Lies Beneath will be a 56-page hardcover with original colors at $79.95. Jodorowsky's Pietrolino will also release on May 1st. Released in France by Les Humanoides Associes in two hardcover volumes, Le Clown Frappeur and Un Cri D'espoir, between 2007 and 2008, Pietrolino is the first English translation. Illustrated by Olivier Boiscommun (The Book of Jack, Engel), Pietrolino is an adaptation of a Jodorowsky play about Marcel Marceau. The 96-page, color hardcover will retail for $29.95. In June, Jason Henderson (Shadowland: Daughters of the Shadow), Tony Salvaggio (Psy-Comm), Jean-Baptiste Hostache, and Izu's (Kreuzfahrer) Clockwerx is another hallmark of Humanoids transatlantic projects, uniting American writers with a European illustrator. First published in French as Genese in 2008 and later as a two issue German series in 2011, Clockwerx is a steampunk adventure set in late-nineteenth century London. The 112-page deluxe full color hardcover is will retail for $29.95. Rounding out Humanoids' summer catalog are two titles in July. Writers Bruno Ricard and Sylvain Ricard (Das Haus auf dem Hugel) team with artist Christophe Gaultier for Beirut 1990: Snapshots of a Civil War. The travel story of two brothers in Lebanon, Snapshots is a first-person account of a war-torn country. The 160-page b/w hardcover will retail for $29.95. Last, Humanoids will also be rereleasing the now out of print Screaming Planet from Jodorowsky.
