James Cameron has finally "announced a starting date" for his long-delayed Battle Angel Alita movie--and don’t worry Cameron fans, you can still buy green bananas--production won’t start on the manga adaptation until 2017 after the maestro finishes two Avatar sequels.  Cameron has been working on the adaptation of the science fiction manga by Yukito Kishiro for almost a decade now (see "James Cameron to Make 'Battle Angel Alita'’") and doesn’t plan to be rushed into anything.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Cameron laid out his plans to an audience in Mexico City and described his Battle Angel Alita as "something that would one-up Avatar by focusing on the expansion of character and storytelling over creation of new technology."

Cameron is in danger of becoming the "Wimpy" of Tinseltown with his near decade of promises of an imminent Battle Angel Alita, which have all the heft of "I'll pay you Wednesday for a hamburger today,"  but there are still probably a few fans left out there in wilds of western Nebraska or eastern Washington who are expecting to view a Cameron-helmed Battle Angel movie in 2018 or 2019.
