Today's Variety reported that Philip Levens, a writer and co-producer on the highly popular Smallville TV series, has been hired by producer Joel Silver to write the screenplay for a Warner Brothers film based on the DC Comics character, Wonder Woman.  According to Variety it is not yet known whether or not Wonder Woman will be Silver's next picture.  Silver, who produced The Matrix Reloaded, is currently working on Gothika with Halle Berry and Penelope Cruz.  Although no date has yet been set for the start of production for Wonder Woman, the hiring of the experienced Levens is a sign that Silver and Warners want to get this project underway quickly.

Although Warner Brothers does not have any films based on DC superheroes close to release, the studio has numerous projects in various stages of development including Catwoman, Superman, and Batman to name a few.  With Wonder Woman's ascension to the fast track it is possible that the distaff side of DC's superhero slate may well beat their male counterparts to the silver screen.
