The finest copy of Action Comics #1, the comic containing the first appearance of Superman, known to be in existence soared to $1.6 million dollars in its first day of an eBay auction that will last from August 12th to August 24th (see "The First 3 Million Dollar Comic Book"). A portion of the proceeds from the sale of the comic will be donated to the Christopher and Dana Reeves Foundation for spinal cord research.
The comic currently up for bids on eBay is one of only 2 copies to receive a “9.0” rating from the Certified Guaranty Company. The other 9.0 copy belonged to actor Nicholas Cage and was sold for a record $2.16 million in 2011 (see "'Action Comics' #1 Brings $2.16 Million"), after the book, which had been stolen from the actor’s home, was recovered (see "Down in the Valley--Nic Cage's 'Action Comics' #1 Found").
The copy of Action Comics #1, which is now on eBay, has "white pages," while the Nic Cage copy had off-color pages that had yellowed due to age. The current owner of the book up for auction has reportedly turned down an offer of $3 million for the book in favor of putting it up for auction where it could conceivably fetch an even higher price.
