Avatar Press announced that Alan Moore will write a new six-issue miniseries set in the universe of Garth Ennis’ horror comic Crossed, launching in December.
Announced via Avatar website Bleeding Cool, the Watchmen scribe will pen the series, set a century after the initial Crossed infection outbreak destroyed modern civilization, with art by Gabriel Andrade (Uber, Ferals).
Moore is taking a unique view on what most would consider an extreme, adult-oriented horror property. "I was thinking that Crossed is actually a science fiction story that has got a really, really high horror quotient," he said. "So that was the way that I started approaching it. I treated Crossed as a 'What if?' story, which is the premise of most science fiction."
The story follows a sheltered enclave of survivors, focusing on archivist Future Taylor, who leads a team of reclamation workers who attempt to salvage technology and knowledge from the past. When they encounter a small Crossed group, they are troubled by the implication that the diseased individuals somehow still proliferate, and what that means for humanity’s continued survival.
Moore has also designed every cover for the series, which will all offer hidden clues as to what happened in the 100 years since the outbreak, and hints at what will happen in the future. Avatar indicated there will be collectors’ editions and boxed sets planned for the series.
