Well into its fifth season The Walking Dead remains a ratings juggernaut as it easily topped Sunday Night Football by 15% in the key 18-49 demographic on Sunday. The blockbuster AMC series, which is based on Robert Kirkman’s Image Comics series, was up 4% in the demo from last week, as it posted a 7.3 rating in the 18-49 group compared with a 6.4 for the highly-anticipated clash between AFC division leaders (and playoff contenders) the New England Patriots and the Indianapolis Colts.
According to Deadline, the fast ratings indicate that The Walking Dead drew 9.2 million from the key demo during its initial broadcast versus 8.1 million for the Colts/Patriots game. Overall The Walking Dead attracted an estimated 14.1 million viewers last night.
Last night marks the third consecutive time that The Walking Dead has topped Sunday Night Football. The premiere episode of the fifth season also easily topped the NFL’s Sunday night offering back on October 13th (see "'Walking Dead' Season Premiere Sets New Record").
