The special two-disk Collector's Edition DVD of Escape From New York, which ships to retailers on December 16, contains an exclusive DVD-sized copy of issue #1 of the current Snake Plissken Chronicles comic book.  In addition to getting the comic book included in the package, Hurricane Studios CEO Jan Ulstein-O'Neill was able to get an advertisement for the Comic Shop Locator service on the back of comic including the CLS logo, phone number and the following text: 'You'll find Snake Plissken's very own comics series, as well as hundreds of other titles -- in every imaginable genre and style -- at your local comic shop.'

The Escape From New York Collector's Edition DVD also contains a special mini-documentary on the making of the Snake Plissken comics, which takes viewers behind the scenes at Hurricane Studios.  The third issue of John Carpenter's Snake Plissken Chronicles hits retail today and the final issue in the current story arc follows in January.  Marvel has managed to include comic book features on several of the DVD releases of films made from its properties, and while these features haven't resulted in the stampede of hordes of new fans to comic shops, they have helped build the audience for comic books incrementally--kudos to Hurricane Studios for making the most of this media opportunity.
