In some ways ComicsOne's How to Draw Kung Fu Comics is much like other comics art instruction manuals. It includes coverage of drawing tools, materials, character design, backgrounds and special effects, but it also attempts to explain the graceful fluid cinematic style of Hong Kong creators such as Andy Seto (Crouching Tiger) and Wing Shing Ma (Storm Riders). With repeated references to Hong Kong movies, How to Draw Kung Fu Comics shows how cinematic breakdowns, combined with fluid and dynamic figure drawing, can create a flow from panel to panel and page to page. The 136-page trade paperback will ship to retail in March 2004 with a cover price of $19.95.
