Sara Grey of Mira Mesa Comic Gallery in San Diego, California saw the choices for the date for Free Comic Book Day 2005 (see 'FCBD 2005'), and sent us her thoughts:

I would say that the first week in May -- regardless of what movies might be coming out in the weeks before or after -- would be *the* best time of year to hold this event.

Schools are in session, colleges are filled, yet there's an air of anticipation for the end of school.  Vacations haven't been taken yet, there are no significant holidays near.  These things assure the comic stores in question a more sound hold on their customers.  They can aim their advertising dollars at an audience that will *stick* with them in their venue -- unlike this year's event which drew in vacationers who would never be seen again.
