Teresa Moran of Acadiana Book & Comic Shop in Lafayette, Louisiana has advice for the many makers of movies based on comics:
I have been noticing something about comic book related movies. I think the moviemakers underestimate the importance of the comic reader in making their movies. Comic readers are a very verbal 'bunch,' and when they like a comic book related movie, they talk, they talk a lot, and that talk spreads to their non-reading comic friends, and that 'buzz' spreads to the general movie-going public. If comic book readers like it, it spreads like 'wild-fire!'
I notice that when the moviemakers take the time, effort, and especially do the research, and make the movie very close to the original comic book, keeping the comic book 'flavor,' the movies have been very successful. Look at X-Men and Spider-Man. Even lesser known characters such as Punisher, and Hellboy did well. I wish the moviemakers would understand this, because if they do, they won't be wasting their money and having a flop of a movie. When they do badly, comic related movies, it just takes several steps backwards, and, makes moviegoers leery of rushing out to see the newest comic related movie. Come on 'guys,' and or 'ladies!' Please get it right. We are counting on you!
