Dave Autzen of Reader's World in Springfield, Illinois, who suggested that Marvel automatically ship variant covers based on the retailer's draw on the title (see 'Dave Autzen of Reader's World on Ordering Variants'), saw the responses from Jim Crocker (see 'Jim Crocker of Modern Myths on Ordering Variants') and Jim Hanley (see 'Jim Hanley of Jim Hanley's Universe on Ordering Variants') and responded:

From Mr. Crocker's comment:

'If a retailer 'forgets' to order something, then they have no one but themselves to blame for not doing the single most basic part of their job.'

Ah, but I am only human...

From Mr. Hanley's comment:

'It should be noted that Marvel switched to soliciting variants separately at the request of several retailers on the CBIA Forum.  The argument was that stores that prefer not to deal in variants should be able to opt out.'

Ah, that I did not know, or perhaps had just forgotten?

'Since this does create some hardship for stores that want them, but don't have systems to assure they are ordered, though, I would suggest that Diamond set up an opt in/opt out system that would allow customers to decide whether they want variants once, then let the computers do the rest.'

I would like to see Diamond/Marvel set up this type of system, as it would simplify my ordering.
