Steven Bates of Diamond Comics (and former ICv2 columnist and Bookery Fantasy manager) saw the new column by Steve Bennett (see 'Confessions of a Comic Book Guy -- You Never Know What You'll Need to Know') and shares his feelings at seeing an interloper in his spot:
Congrats to SA Bennett for landing my old berth! Mr. Bennett is a friend and former 'friendly rival'), who I affectionately call my 'Bizarro Steve.'
His tenure at Dark Star (near Fairborn's Bookery, in quaint Yellow
Springs, OH) is almost the stuff of local legend, and his credits as a comic book scribe put him in a small but impressive fraternity of retailer-writers.
Steve and I didn't always see eye-to-eye--like the time he was quoted in the Dayton Daily News saying 'Comic books aren't expensive enough'--but I always respected his opinions, and he never failed to entertain me with his witty and insightful observations. I'm sure regulars to ICv2 will get no less from his Confessions of a Comic Book Guy.
Good luck to Steve and ICv2. As happy as I am for him, it feels a little weird reading someone else's column where I Think I Can Manage used to run.
In fact, it's downright bizarre.
But that's exactly why I'll keep on reading!
