Archie Comics has announced the subject of its May 6, 2006 Free Comic Book Day giveaway and it's a doozy -- the freckle-faced teen, who has lent his name to the popular line of comic books, is leaving Riverdale because his father has found a lucrative job in another state.  Faced with the prospect of having to move away from his small town soda shop utopia, Archie reminisces about his Little Archie days and commiserates with Katy Keene (the heroine of last year's Archie FCBD offering) and the real-life singing group, The Veronicas, before breaking the news to his inner circle--Betty, Veronica, Jughead, and Reggie (sorry, Moose).

With a younger readership that is 55-60% female, Archie Comics remains a pillar of the American comic book industry, providing kids with a great opportunity to use their reading skills for pleasure, and to find that fun in comic books.  If any publisher is a natural fit for Free Comic Book Day, it is Archie Comics.
