Digital Manga announced at Anime Expo that a Vampire Hunter D manga is currently in production in Japan and will be released in late 2007 or early 2008.  At Anime Expo Digital Manga's Rachel Livingston told the audience that the Vampire Hunter D manga would be published in English even before it appears in Japanese.

The Vampire Hunter D manga will be based on the series of 17 novels (the first of which appeared in 1983) written by Hideyuki Kikuchi and illustrated by Yoshitaka Amano.  Three of the novels have been published in English by Dark Horse -- and they have been extremely successful, especially in the bookstore market, where they rank in the top 20 when compared with sales of the top manga properties.  The Vampire Hunter D novels have inspired several anime features, illustration books and a hit PS2 video game, but they have never been adapted to the manga format until now.  Mr. Kikuchi specifically chose artist Saiko Takaki to illustrate the Vampire Hunter D manga.
