Speaking at the San Diego Comic-Con International, Superman Returns director Bryan Singer announced that he intended to direct a sequel to his Man of Steel epic and to release it in 2009, though he cautioned that his deal to direct the movie has not been 'concluded.' But, having spent much of Superman Returns setting up the situation and reintroducing the characters, the director obviously relishes the opportunity to 'go all Wrath of Khan on it,' referring to the second Star Trek movie, which most fans still think is the best.
Singer introduced Richard Donner, the director of the first two Superman films starring Christopher Reeve -- or at least the first one-and-a-half Superman movies since Richard Lester was brought in to finish Superman II. However on November 28th Warner Brothers is releasing the 'Holy Grail' of Superman movie buffs, Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut (MSRP $24.98), which Donner himself recut to his original specs and which contains a different ending and 15 minutes of footage featuring Marlon Brando as Jor-El that were never released before.
Richard Donner is also getting back into Superman in another medium;d DC Comics announced that Donner and Geoff Johns will be writing Action Comics starting in October.
