Scholastic has updated its plans for graphic novel publishing under its Graphix imprint for 2007 (see 'Scholastic's Skein of Graphic Novels').  The most important news is that Amulet, the new graphic novel by Kazu Kibuishi (editor of the Flight anthologies) has been delayed from its originally scheduled fall release date to an early 2008 release.  Only the continuing graphic novel series based on children's books (Babysitters Club and Goosebumps) are currently scheduled for release in 2007 under the Graphix imprint.

Two other titles potentially of interest to graphic novel buyers are slated for release this year under other Scholastic imprints.  Brian Selznick's The Invention of Hugo Cabret will be released in February as a 526 page hardcover, with over 300 pages of black and white illustrations, for $22.99.  The story will be told in both prose and sequences of wordless illustrations.  It's based on the experiences of early 20th century French filmmaker George Melies.  Selznick is a Coldecott Honor winner for his work on children's books.  The target audience is 9 to 12 year olds.  The book is getting a 100,000 copy first printing.

The Arrival, a wordless graphic novel by Shaun Tan, will be released under the Arthur A. Levine imprint this fall at $19.99 retail.
