Goodman Games has announced plans to publish a roleplaying game designed to have the feel and style of the earliest fantasy roleplaying games. The game will be called the Dungeon Crawl Classics Role Playing Game, and it was designed by Joseph Goodman.

Using the OGL as a starting point, Goodman has taken elements from the 3E d20 system to build a new roleplaying game based on the principles common to games published in the 1970s. The result is intended to offer simpler mechanics than many current games on the market and create a more “pulp” fantasy feel like the original Dungeons & Dragons game. As the title suggests, the focus of the game is on classic, traditional dungeon exploration and combat.

Goodman Games intends to involve the RPG community by releasing a free, open playtest version of the game in mid-2011. Results from this “open beta” style version will be integrated into the final product.

Dungeon Crawl Classics Role Playing Game is scheduled to release in November 2011 with a suggested retail price of $34.99.
