Rembert Parker of Reader Copies in Anderson, Indiana read Scott Thorne's recent column regarding the delayed Wolverine and the X-Men HeroClix release (see "Rolling for Initiative--Ah Yes, Gen Con Trade Day (and a Delayed WizKids Release) Upon Us Once Again") and had this to say.
Scott Thorne mentioned the one week delay of the new Wolverine and the X-Men HeroClix from August 14 to August 21, but he may have overlooked a vital piece of data: Gen Con is August 15 to August 18.
Alliance informed us that we might receive our shipment of the new HeroClix earlier than August 21, but that we could not sell them until that date, thus guaranteeing that WizKids could sell the product direct to our customers before we can if they have their product in time (this especially hurts stores like ours that are within a one hour driving distance of the convention, particularly if WizKids continues to offer exclusive convention figures for purchasing bricks of the new set).
In all fairness, if retailers can't sell the product because of a street date, manufacturers shouldn't either.
I just hope the product sells well enough after the convention that we aren't left with cases of HeroClix collecting dust.
