Fantasy Flight Games has announced the release of their 2014 Season One Tournament and Game Night kits.
FFG announced last year that they were adding a new tournament level for organized play (see "FFG's 2014 Store Championships"). Six games (A Game of Thrones: The Card Game, Android: Netrunner The Card Game, Call of Cthulhu: The Card Game, Star Wars: The Card Game, Warhammer: Diskwars, and X-Wing) follow the new Tournament format, while two (Descent: Journeys in the Dark Second Edition and The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game) will remain part of the Game Night program due to their more cooperative play style. The previous announcement listed Warhammer: Invasion The Card Game as part of the new Tournament format, but it appears Warhammer: Diskwars has replaced it.
The new Tournament Kits include more prizes and promotional material designed to support competitive tournament play for retailers (as a single tournament or a series), though FFG also states in the solicitation that the kit can be used to support casual Game Nights, league play or other formats that suit individual stores. Contents for the card game and X-Wing kits were previously released, but the Warhammer: Diskwars kit will contain collectible acrylic range rulers, alternate art cards and card boxes as prizes. The tournament season will run from March through June.
The Game Night Kit for Descent includes a new, cooperative scenario for 1 – 4 players, 4 cardstock playmats, 4 sets of dice, 4 sets of acrylic wound tokens, a rule sheet, an info booklet, and a promotional poster. The Lord of the Rings Game Night Kit includes three Nightmare Decks from past adventures, playmats, a promotional poster and an information sheet.
