At Toy Fair, Playroom Entertainment’s Jessica Eyler shared the company’s upcoming releases, as well as news on a distribution deal.
Killer Bunnies fans will be excited to hear about the new spin-off line Psychic Penguins. "It plays similar, but has completely different goals. The end game is completely different. The only thing that fans of Killer Bunnies will recognize is how players have to think two rounds ahead by playing two cards down," Eyler explained.
There is another connection, though. "Fans of Killer Bunnies may have noticed that some of the cards have a mysterious little critter in the background, and those are penguins, and now they have their own game," she said. The penguins are not from Earth, and they are trying to build a transporter to return to their planet. Players must gather various resources to send the penguins home, and/or foil their opponents. The game also contains mini-games which affect game play, and overall help players in their goals. The game is for 2 -8 players, ages 13 and up, and plays in an hour. The box contains 150 Large Cards, 48 Small Cards, 36 Penguin Tiles, 2 Dice and rules. MSRP is $35.00, and it will release in Q3.
Eyler also told us that Playroom has entered a distribution deal with Russian game company Zvezda to distribute its Disney Pixar-licensed Cars and Planes snap kit models and associated racing games (see "Zvezda--Disney's 'Cars' and 'Planes'"). The board games still carry an MSRP of $25.00, but most of the individual models now have an MSRP of $10.00. They are currently available for sale.
Playroom will also soon release a companion to its party game Geek Out. "Pop Culture Party--Geek Out is its own separate game," Elyer explained. "It has more of a pop culture broad appeal. This one focuses on movies, TV, literature, music and a miscellaneous category. It’s a little less geeky, but you still get to geek out when you’re playing it." The box contains more than 1000 topics on 205 list cards, 20 penalty chips, a die and instructions. MSRP is $20.00. Release is planned for spring.
Other upcoming releases from Playroom include Shuffle Dice, Fusion, and Qwitch. "Shuffle Dice plays a lot like shuffle board, except now you’re rolling dice," Elyer said. The game comes with 8 custom dice, a game board and instructions. MSRP is $20.00 and it will release in Q2.
Fusion is a fast-paced, pattern recognition card game. "If you’re familiar with Blink, then you should be able to pick this up fairly quickly. It’s also invented by Reinhard Staupe," Eyler said. The card game will release in Q3 with an MSRP of $12.00.
Playroom will also be bringing Maureen Hiron’s quick-reaction card game Qwitch back to U.S. markets in Q3. MSRP is $10.00.
