Fleer Trading Cards has licensed the rights from FremantleMedia to produce a card game and a trading card set based on the final 32 contestants of the upcoming American Idol 3 live Fox television show, which is scheduled to begin airing in January, 2004.

The American Idol 3 CCG will include 110 cards, featuring the 32 contestants, the shows most popular songs and the judges.  Photos of the contestants' performances leading up to their final 32 participation will also be included, along with hand-signed autographs from the contestants, judges and host.

The American Idol 3 Trading Card Set will include autographed and event worn memorabilia cards.

Both the game and trading card set are due to be in retail outlets by February 11th to coincide with the episode on which the final 32 contestants are announced.  One of the reasons's for the demise of Upper Deck's Survivor CCG was the delay between the shows and the release of cards featuring the non-celebrity contestants, whose 15 minutes were often over by then (see 'Upper Deck Cuts Survivor').

A Fleer spokesman stated, 'Fleer will make American Idol the centerpiece of our entertainment division in 2004.'  Backing up this claim are plans for print ads in leading national teen magazines, television commercials, retailer sweepstakes, and hometown in-store appearances by contestants that have been eliminated.
