Avalanche Press has announced the launch of a new wargames imprint, Classic Wargames.  The games, which will cost in the $175 range, will be printed to order once enough customers have pledged to buy them directly from Avalanche Press, which pledges 'these games will never be sold at the retail or distribution levels even after production.'  An Avalanche spokesman noted, 'We didn't see that many retailers wanting to stock a $175 game, and this lets us risk minimal resources to bring gamers the rich, detailed experiences they want.'

The games to be published under the new imprint are all new titles, not reprints, but they do hearken back to large, intense conflict simulations popular in the 1970s and 1980s and will include Sicily, which covers the 1943 Allied invasion and which contains six full-sized game maps and 1,680 game pieces; El Alamein, which recreates the 1942 battles in the North African desert with four maps and 2,100 game pieces; Leyte Gulf, which allows players to recreate history's largest navel battle; and Napoleon on the Danube, which contains the maps and pieces for recreating eight major Napoleonic conflicts.
