Comic Images has acquired the trading card license for Madagascar, the primary Dreamworks animated feature release for 2005. Madagascar is the story of a giraffe, a zebra, and a hippo (voiced by David Schwimmer, Chris Rock and Jada Pinkett-Smith respectively) from New York's Central Park Zoo, who, in the process of being returned to the wild, are shipwrecked on the island of Madagascar. Dreamworks' Jeffrey Katzenberg, who oversaw production of The Lion King at Disney, is taking a personal interest in Madagascar, which is known to some in Hollywood as 'Dreamworks' Lion King.'
Madagascar is currently set to debut on May 27, 2005. Comic Images' Madagascar Trading Cards should be out several weeks before the film opens.
Spring 2005 is going to be a very busy time for Comic Images, which has also received the license to create a number of Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith collectibles. Comic Images will produce Episode III gumball machines as well as bobble-head figures and bobble pens.
