Anime on DVD is reporting that Media Blasters will release the first DVD of Ramen Fighter Miki (Muteki Kanban Musume) in September. Based on a 17-volume manga series by Jun Sadogawa, the 12-episode Ramen Fighter Miki anime series was directed by Nobuo Tomizawa and aired on Japanese TV in 2006. The central character in the shonen, slice-of-life comedy is Onimaru Miki, a hot-headed tomboy with a frenetic fighting style who works as a poster girl for her family's Chinese ramen noodle restaurant.
Hardcore fans will quickly realize that the Ramen Fighter Miki anime series includes plenty of parodies of other series along with loads of rough-and-ready humor based on the Miki's out-of-control behavior. Ironically when she gets drunk Miki reverts to an ultra-genteel ladylike mode, a rather atypical reaction to an excess of alcohol that is also played for laughs.
The first three volumes in Jun Sadogawa's Muteki Kanban Musume manga series were published in the U.S. in 2005 by ADV under the title Noodle Fighter Miki.
