The New York Times, in a half-page article by Dave Kehr, previewed the release of Satoshi Kon's Paprika in Sunday's national edition.  A primary theme of the article was the director's intention to create work for mainstream audiences, and the anime tradition of directing work to adults.  Kon contrasted Paprika with a Disney film.  'When you see a Disney cartoon, you're in a dream world of sweet animals and pretty flowers,' he said.  'The dream world in Paprika is quite the opposite -- frightening and horrible, a surprising notion coming from a cartoon.'

The film is being released in New York this Friday (see 'Best in Shows 2007, Part 1'), and in Los Angeles next week.
