Pioneer has announced that it will distribute Bandai's Betterman on DVD beginning in June. Betterman is a 14-episode anime series by Sunrise and TV Tokyo that first aired in Japan in 1999. The title character is a mysterious warrior in the near future who battles a virus attacking humanity. Five episodes will appear on each disc, and a limited edition Betterman foil card will be packaged with each volume. Pioneer will distribute the DVD to the trade. Betterman is another example of the trend toward shorter anime series that appear in the US relatively soon after their release in Japan.
