Anime News Service is reporting that one of the most highly anticipated new anime series on Japanese television has been delayed indefinitely. The thirteen-episode series, entitled Space Pirate Captain Harlock: The Endless Odyssey was supposed to have debuted on June 27. No word on when the series will be broadcast has been forthcoming, though the first DVD from the series is still slated for a fall 2002 release.
The new Captain Harlock series includes an array of top notch contemporary anime talents with Rintaro, who directed the recent Metropolis film (as well as the original Captain Harlock TV anime) directing from a script by Sadayuki Murai (Perfect Blue, Boogiepop Phantom) with character designs by Nobuteru Yuki (Escaflowne). With these great creators on board, the new Captain Harlock series is almost certain to be picked up for broadcast or at the very least distribution on DVD in the U.S. Look for more details on this exciting project here in the future.
