One of the most recent anime titles licensed for U.S. distribution is Tenshi Ni Naru Mon! ('I'll Become An Angel').  Produced by Studio Pierrot for TV Tokyo, this series is a prime example of the 'shojo' style of anime, which is aimed primarily at young girls.  With the exception of Sailor Moon, few shojo titles have made their way to the U.S., and of those that have, some (like Escaflowne) have been modified to emphasize the action/adventure elements and downplay the shojo elements. Tenshi Ni Naru Mon! leavens its giant-eyed super cuteness with an Addams Family/Munsters-like family group which includes a Frankensteinesque father, witch mother, invisible sister, and vampire brother, but the series remains firmly in the shojo camp both in style and in its romantic plot. The hapless hero falls (literally) into a relationship with a beautiful nymph whose bizarre family miraculously takes up residence in the boy's house, which they turn into a garish mansion.

The TV network or packager that has picked up Tenshi Ni Naru Mon! is not known at this time.  What is certain is the preference of American TV networks for children's programming that appeals to boys.  It appears that males seize the remote control early in life, at least according to those in charge of children's programming on American TV, who are fond of pointing out that more girls watch the highly rated Dragonball Z show than watch Sailor Moon.
