Word has leaked out that the Dark Knight Rises, the final film in Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy has received its MPAA rating, which happens to be the same “PG-13” rating earned by Nolan’s first two Bat pics, Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. There is certainly no surprise in the rating itself, but the MPAA’s justification for it may be another story.
There is a difference in the MPAA’s expressed reasons for the The Dark Knight Rises’ rating. According to the industry’s self-regulating apparatchiks, the film was given its “PG-13 for intense sequence of violence and action, some sensuality and language.”
Comic Book Movie has seized on the “some sensuality” reference to infer that Anne Hathaway’s presence as Catwoman in the film may be responsible for the sensuality, but we will all probably have to wait until the film opens on July 20th to find out.
