Abbie Cornish, who was brilliant as Fanny Brawne in Bright Star and played Sweet Pea in Zack Snyder’s Sucker Punch, is in talks for the lead female role in Jose Padilha’s remake of Paul Verhoeven’s Robocop. Cornish joins a cast that includes the recently announced Samuel L. Jackson, who will play media mogul Pat Novak (see "Samuel L. Jackson Joins 'Robocop' Cast"). The flurry of casting announcements indicates that the Robocop remake is a priority for MGM.
Deadline is reporting that Cornish will play the wife of murdered cop Alex Murphy who provides the "human element" of the Robocop cyborg. Angie Bolling played Murphy’s wife in the Verhoeven original, but the role was far from the female lead, which was clearly Nancy Allen, who played Murphy’s partner Officer Anne Lewis, an indication perhaps that Padilha’s film might be more of a reboot that a straight remake.
