Late night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel told his audience the bizarre story of a Free Comic Book Day assault on two costumed characters in front of Coast Comics in Portland, Maine in his monologue on Monday night. A 300 pound man assaulted men dressed as a Stormtrooper and a Ghostbuster, apparently without provocation, according to the Maine Sun Journal. The assailant was tased as he was arrested by police for the assault.
There are probably better ways to get Free Comic Book Day discussed on a late night TV show, but we’ll take this as a positive sign of the increasing profile of the event, which set new records this year for the number of free comics distributed.
