This July, ADV Films will release Aura Battler Dunbine, a classic 49-episode anime series from 1983. In spite of its historic importance and quality, this anime series has never been released in the U.S.. Carl Macek, producer of Robotech and Doomed Megalopolis, is supervising the production of the English version of this 'golden age' anime series, which was created by Yoshiyuki Tomino (a key Gundam creator and director). Dunbine, which ADV refers to as 'the best anime you've never seen,' has long been celebrated for its exciting plot and the extraordinary mecha designs by Studio Nue (Macross/Robotech), but it's the depth of characterization and the consistently excellent quality of the animation (done by Sunrise) that mark this as a truly exceptional series. With its big robots and heavy-duty character development, Aura Battler Dunbine was a key influence on the development of one anime's most popular genres.
Anime veteran Macek is thrilled to be working on this anime classic. 'This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to bring a truly classic anime series from a great creative team to our fans,' he said. Ever since I first became aware of Aura Battler Dunbine it has been a personal goal to make sure this masterpiece was brought to the attention of the American public.' So far ADV Films has not released any details about the first Dunbine release, except to state that it is slated for this July.
