Dynamite Entertainment will launch Swords of Sorrow, a major crossover event featuring female characters written by female writers, in May.  Gail Simone is writing the core book, has created the framework for the event, and brought together the creators to execute it.  The deal with Simone was announced last July at San Diego Comic-Con (see "Gail Simone's 'The Women of Dynamite'").

The event will focus on three main characters, Red Sonja, Vampirella, and Dejah Thoris, and additional characters Kato, Jungle Girl, Lady Rawhide, Jennifer Blood, and more.

Three miniseries and a special will launch in May:  the core book Swords of Sorrow, written by Simone with art by Sergio Davila (Legenderry: A Steampunk Adventure); Swords of Sorrow:  Vampirella / Jennifer Blood, written by Nancy A. Collins, with art by Dave Acosta; Swords of Sorrow:  Masquerade / Kato, written by G. Willow Wilson and Erica Schultz, with art by Noah Salonga; and the Swords of Sorrow: Chaos special, written by Mairgherad Scott, with art by Mirka Andolfo.

Additional titles are planned for subsequent months, written by Leah Moore, Marguerite Bennett, Emma Beeby, and Mikki Kendal.

An extensive covers program is planned for the first group, including the main cover for the core Swords of Sorrow series by J. Scott Campbell; variants by Jenny Frison and Emanuela Lupacchino; a subscription variant by Robert Hack; and incentive variants by Joyce Chin, Tula Lotay, Nei Ruffino, and Cedric Poulat.  Covers for Swords of Sorrow: Vampirella / Jennifer Blood #1 and Swords of Sorrow: Masquerade / Kato #1 will be by Billy Tan, and Joyce Chin is doing the cover for Swords of Sorrow: Chaos special.
