Kickstarter began accepting crowd-funding projects for Germany yesterday, and board game publisher Pegasus Spiele’s The Dwarves was one of nine projects highlighted by Kickstarter as part of the German platform launch.

The Dwarves: The Board Game is based on a series of fantasy novels written by Markus Heitz, in which the dwarves of Girdlegard must protect their homeland from being overrun by orcs, trolls, and Alfar.  The game is a cooperative game, where the players assume the roles of major character in the books, undertaking quests and battling the invading monsters.

The game is already available in German, and has been honored with multiple awards.  The current Kickstarter program will support the publication of an English-language version of the game, as well as both German and English versions of The Saga Expansion.  The Kickstarter campaign is described as being both “EU & US Friendly,” and includes three different retailer backer packages.  Pegasus Spiele Marketing Director Michael Kranzle sold ICv2 that shipping for these bundles is the same as other pledge levels,  €15.00, or approximately $17.00.

The Dwarves: The Board Game and The Dwarves:  The Saga Expansion is expected to ship to campaign backers in December of this year.  Pegasus plans to release the base game into distribution afterwards, but The Saga Expansion will be exclusive to this Kickstarter campaign.  As far as trade release, Kranzel told ICv2 “We are in negotiations with our usual partners but have no fixed deal in place… US retail prices are very often, but not for sure, the Euro price in dollars.”
