Warner Bros. Home Entertainment and Fathom Events are working together to give Batman: The Killing Joke a special, one-night big screen release on Monday, July 25 in select cinemas across the county.  The R-rated animated feature (see “Warner Bros. to Animate ‘The Killing Joke’” & “First Trailer for Batman: The Killing Joke”) will be shown at 7pm and 10pm (local time) in special showings that will include exclusive-to-the-evening presentations.

The Fathom Events screenings will take place three days after Batman: The Killing Joke’s World Premiere at the San Diego Comic-Con on July 22.  Batman: The Killing Joke will be released for Digital Purchase on July 26, and then on DVD and Blu-ray on August 2.

Written by Alan Moore with art by Brian Bolland, Batman: The Killing Joke has been a perennial bestseller since it was first released in 1988, and the classic graphic novel got a big boost when the first images of Jared Leto who plays the Joker (with a definite Bollandesque “Killing Joke” look) in Warner Bros.’ upcoming Suicide Squad movie were released (see “Jared Leto as The Joker”).  Suddenly The Killing Joke graphic novel, a staple backlist title that been continuously in the Neilson Bookscan Graphic Novel Top 20 since August of 2014, surged to #1 (see “28 Days Later, The Killing Joke is #1”).  For even more interesting tidbits about this remarkably long-lived graphic novel see “Throwback Thursday: When Killing Joke Was New” & “Jim Hanley of Jim Hanley’s Universe on The Killing Joke”).
