Modiphius Entertainment and Free League Publishing will co-publish Coriolis – The Third Horizon, a new sci-fi roleplaying game. The game is currently seeking funding on Kickstarter.

Coriolis is based on the rules engine for the post-apocalyptic RPG Mutant: Year Zero. In the game players take the roles of crew members on a space ship, traveling throughout the cluster of star systems called The Third Horizon. Players can be traders, explorers, mercenaries, pilgrims or agents. The core mechanics involve making a skill roll with dice, where a player needs at least one 6 to be successful. There is also a mechanic involving prayer to the Icons, which can be used to reroll, with a cost. The players’ ship is central to play, since it is the players’ home. So it must be defended, repaired and developed.

The 300-page full-color hardcover rulebook is the initial product, and Free League Publishing and Modiphius plan to release a range of supplements, including atlases, and a grand campaign that tells the story of The Horizon: The Mercy of the Icons. Fulfillment is scheduled for December. Trade release is also scheduled for December and MSRP is $44.99.

The Kickstarter has raised $30,474 from 392 backers ($77.74 /backer average) as of this writing, well over the modest $5,832 goal, with 29 days to go.
