The French Comics Association, an organization of many of the major publishers of French comics (BD), with the support of the French Embassy, is presenting a month-long festival promoting BD in New York in October.  The festival will include a month-long art exhibition, and bring 18 illustrators to the city to participate in events including New York Comic Con and panel discussions around the city.

The French Comics Framed Festival will host an exhibition at the Fourth Avenue Colonnade of The Cooper Union Foundation Building. The exhibit will present over 50 graphic novel illustrations that take viewers through the history of Franco-Belgian comics. The exhibition runs from September 27 – November 5.

New York Comic Con will host Penelope Bagieu, Olivier Balez, François Boucq, Barbara Canepa, Stephane Crety, Etienne Davodeau, Asaf Hanuka, Matz, Jean-Claude Mezieres, Nicolas Otero, Arthur de Pins, Jean-Marc Rochette, Anne Simon, and the Kerascoet duo (Marie Pommepuy and Sebastien Cosset). The artists will participate in talks and book signings at the convention.

Various artists will also participate in clinics and panel discussions at multiple locations around the city, including Society of Illustrators, School of Visual Arts, Museum of the City of New York, Cooper Union Foundation Building, and Columbia University.

The French Comics Association is comprised of many major publishers of French comics: Dargaud, Casterman, Delcourt, Dupuis, Futuropolis, Gallimard BD, Glenat, Le Lombard, Rue de Sevres, Soleil and Steinkis. Its mission is to promote Franco-Belgian comics in the U.S. and worldwide by promoting English translation, supporting the U.S. publishing industry and stimulating cultural exchanges with literature and visual narratives.
