Dynamite Entertainment has licensed Microsoft Studios’ Xbox One franchise Killer Instinct for a publishing program that includes a new comic series in 2017.

Killer Instinct is one of Xbox One’s most downloaded franchises, with over 7 million unique users and more than 3 billion collective minutes of gameplay logged since the rebooted game launched in 2013.

"Comics is something the Killer Instinct fans have asked for again and again since launch. With the release of our newest expansion, Shadow Lords, players can see that the Killer Instinct cast has some fantastic back stories and there are still more stories to be told," said Earnest Yuen, Executive Producer for Killer Instinct at Microsoft. "We love Dynamite Entertainment's work and our team is incredibly excited to have them as a partner to expand upon the KI universe in the upcoming comic series."

Killer Instinct was a fighting video game developed by Rare and published by Nintendo and Midway in 1994, initially as an arcade game and then ported to the Super Nintendo System and Gameboy in 1995. The game’s story, which involved an all-powerful corporation overseeing a fighting tournament, was adapted into a comic miniseries released by Acclaim Comics’ Armada imprint in 1996.
