Warm up your purple lightsabers: Mace Windu is getting his own comic book miniseries.

Star Wars: Jedi of the Republic -- Mace Windu comes from writer Matt Owens (Elektra) and artist Denys Cowan (Static ShockCaptain America/Black Panther: Flags of Our Fathers). With the Clone Wars on the horizon, Mace Windu will face the ultimate test of leadership as he guides the Jedi into battle. The first issue of the five-issue miniseries features a main cover by Jesus Saiz and variants by Javier Rodriguez, Rahzzah, and Russell Dauterman. It will be in stores August 23.

Owens, a writer for Netflix’s Luke Cage series, only recently entered the comics arena with Marvel’s new Elektra series (see “Marvel Expands Titles Tied to Netflix Characters”), which kicked off in late February (see “Preview: 'Elektra' #1”).

Cowan, one of the founders of and partners in Milestone Comics (see "Milestone Returns as Milestone 2.0"), an imprint dedicated to diversifying comics and their creators, provided a cover for the late 2016 collection of David Walker’s Nighthawk run (see “Chicago's Dark Protector Gets New Collection”). The first season of the animated television series based on Static Shock, which Cowan helped create for Milestone, was recently collected (see “DVD Round-Up: 'Fantastic Beasts,' 'Patriots' Day,' 'Why Him?,' 'A Monster Calls,' 'Archer,' 'Static Shock,' & 'Boruto Naruto'”).
