The first game Ultra Pro will release under its license for games based on Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets will be cooperative.  Valerian: The Alpha Missions will release in August.

Valerian:  The Alpha Mission pits a team of agents on a series of missions within the sci-fi city of Alpha.  Fully cooperative, the players must work together to complete their mission objectives and escape through the airlock before their enemies can track them down.

During the game, the players use tiles to explore the city, collectively deciding to work together or split up to seek multiple objectives at once.  Mission, Alien, and Nemesis cards reveal what the agents encounter during their mission, which must be completed before any of the decks run out, while random Gear cards determine what resources they have available.

Valerian:  The Alpha Missions was created by Ryan Miller (Epic PVP:  Fantasy, Fantahzee:  Hordes & Heroes).  The game includes a game board, 51 map tiles, 148 cards, 20 energy cubes, 27 counters, 12 dice, and 8 player standees, and features images and artwork from the film.  It is intended for 2 to 4 players, ages 11 and up.  Each mission takes about a half an hour to play.  MSRP is $45.00.

Ultra Pro announced its license to produce Valerian games last year, part of a broad group of licensees for the movie (see “Ultra Pro Gets ‘Valerian’ for Board and Card Games, Accessories”).  The highly-anticipated film opens on July 21 (see “Final 'Valerian' Trailer”).
