This year marks Jack Kirby’s centennial, and Abrams is releasing an anniversary edition of its touchstone Kirby retrospective in recognition.

The anniversary edition of Kirby: King of Comics by Mark Evanier and introduced by Neil Gaiman is revised and expanded from the volume’s original 2008 printing (see “Kirby Biography from Abrams in October”). The new edition will have smaller, more affordable packaging, feature a new cover, and include an all-new chapter bringing Kirby’s story up to date. The 240-page, full-color softcover will be in stores August 2 at an MSRP of $24.99.

The co-creator of some of the most popular characters in comics - including Captain America, the X-Men, Hulk, and the Fantastic Four - Kirby is being celebrated with a number of releases this year. Marvel is releasing a True Believer series featuring Kirby’s greatest creations (see “Marvel Celebrates Kirby's 100th Birthday”). DC is also celebrating with a series of one-shots starring characters that Kirby created for the publisher (see “DC Unveils Its 'Kirby One-Shot' Creators”) and with special events throughout the year (see “DC Celebrates Jack Kirby's Birthday”). Kirby’s syndicated daily with Dick and Dave Wood, Sky Masters of the Space Force, is also being collected by Hermes Press (see “Jack Kirby's Classic Sci-Fi Comic Strip Collected”).
