A favorite returns while another exits in latest Fox Marvel movie casting news.

Evan Peters, who stole the show as Quicksilver in X-Men: Days of Future Past and X-Men: Apocalypse, will be back for more scene-stealing in X-Men: Dark Phoenix, reports The Hollywood Reporter.  The mutant speedster isn’t part of the "Dark Phoenix Saga" in the comics, but he’s become a favorite with movie audiences. Lamar Johnson of the BAFTA Award-winning show The Next Step has also joined the cast in an unspecified role. They join Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, James McAvoy, Nicholas Hoult, Alexandra Shipp, Sophie Turner, Tye Sheridan, and Kodi Smit-McPhee (and yet-to-be-cast Dazzler!) on the film (see “Dazzler in 'Dark Phoenix,' 'Jurassic World 2' Set, 'Spider-Man' Trilogy, More”).  The film will release on November 2, 2018 (see “Best in Shows--Q4 2018”).

Alice Braga (Queen of the South, Elysium) has been cast in New Mutants according to THR.  She will play Dr. Cecilia Reyes, who has the ability to generate a protective field around herself.  At one point, Rosario Dawson was in talks for the role (see “Rosario Dawson in Negotiations for 'New Mutants'”); the reason for the departure is unclear. Braga joins Masie Williams (Wolfsbane), Anya Taylor-Joy (Magik), Charlie Heaton (Cannonball), and Blu Hunt (Danielle Moonstar) on the film, which is inspired by “The Demon Bear Saga” (see “Rosario Dawson In Negotiations For 'New Mutants'”).  The film is scheduled for release on April 13, 2018 (see “Best in Shows--Q2 2018”).

Ryan Reynolds turned to Instagram to reveal that Hunt for the Wilderpeople’s Julian Dennison has joined the cast of Deadpool 2.  Given that one of the more comedic scenes in Wilderpeople has Dennison engaging in accidental innuendo, profanity, and gunplay, the teenaged New Zealander should fit right in.  Dennison joins Reynolds, Josh Brolin (Cable), Zazie Beetz (Domino), Brianna Hildebrand (Negasonic Teenage Warhead), Stefan Kapcic (Colossus), and Karan Soni (Dopinder the taxi driver) in the cinematic chimichanga (see “'Deadpool 2' Finds Its Cable”). Deadpool 2 hits screens on June 1, 2018 (see “Best in Shows--Q2 2018”).
