Warner Bros. has closed a deal with Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins according to Variety. Under the deal, Jenkins will return to write, direct, and produce Wonder Woman 2, which is scheduled for a December 13, 2019, release (see “Leto For 'Bloodshot,' 'Wonder Woman 2' Date, Dr. Doom, Shazam, Mega Man, More”).
Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot had been signed to multiple films, but Jenkins’ original deal covered only the first film. Given the immense popularity of the movie, which was an instant hit and has so far brought in $409 million domestically and $813 million worldwide, Warner Bros. began immediate negotiations for Jenkins’ return (see “'New Mutants,' Dark Universe,' Wonder Woman 2,' 'Godzilla,' Tokyo Ghoul'”).
The amount of Jenkins’ deal was not revealed, but Variety reports that sources indicate it’s in the $8 million range, making Jenkins the highest paid female director of all time. Backend box office grosses are also part of the deal.
Gadot will reprise the role of Wonder Woman in the upcoming Justice League film, which debuts on November 17 (see "'Justice League' Close-Up").
