White Wizard Games will release the dark fantasy themed card game Sorcerer next September, and is offering retailers a chance to get copies as early as June.

Sorcerer is set in a version of Victorian-era London in a world where ancient evil beings struggle to break down the barriers that imprison them in limbo.  As “sorcerers” or servants of these dark beings, the players use their magical powers and gang of minions to battle each other for control of three critical parts of the city.

Each player builds their own deck by combining one of four 10-card Character Decks with a 20-card Lineage Deck and a 10-card Domain Deck, with 64 possible combinations using the cards in the base game.  A player’s deck determines what abilities their sorcerer can use and what minions they command.  During the game, they deploy their minions to the three battlegrounds.  Battle between minions is then resolved using the game’s custom dice, with victorious minions having a chance to capture their battlefield.  The first player to capture two of the three battlegrounds wins the game.

The base game includes 173 cards, 4 stand-up avatar markers, 4 player boards, 3 battlefield boards, 7 wooden tokens, 8 custom dice, and more than 100 counters.  Sorcerer is intended for 2 to 4 players.  It is the first published design by Slovakian designer Peter Scholtz.  MSRP is $45.00.  White Wizard plans to produce a series of expansion packs for the game as well.

Production of Sorcerer is being funded through a Kickstarter game that thus far has attracted $99,153 from 1,260 backers (an average of $78.69 per backer), with 29 days remaining in the campaign.  Backer fulfillment is scheduled for June 2018, with a September release into the trade for the base game and November release for the first three expansion packs.  Retailers that support the campaign will receive their copies at the same time as backer fulfillment and will have access to the three Kickstarter exclusive expansion packs as well.

White Wizard plans to release a new stand-alone expansion for its hit game Star Realms next month, supported by a pre-release promotion for retailers (see “White Wizard Enlists Retailers for New ‘Star Realms’ Release”).
