The long-awaited Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay Fourth Edition, produced under license by Cubicle 7, has been pushed back to mid-2018.

Announced earlier this year (see “Cubicle 7 to Revive ‘Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay’”), the new edition of the role playing game based on Games Workshop’s iconic Warhammer fantasy setting is still undergoing development at Cubicle 7.

“The initial plan was to make some small updates to the awesome second edition, and that would mean we would be able to release the game in 2017,” project design lead Dominic McDowall said in a statement. “We’re all huge fans of the first and second editions of WFRP, and we wanted to take the game back to those roots.  When I got into the guts of the game I started seeing more opportunities to add in some of the things we’ve learned over the years.  This more creative direction meant a longer development phase.” The specific release date has not been set, but Cubicle 7 is planning on a summer release.

The initial release of the game will include two products:  a Core Rulebook and a separate boxed Starter Set. Cover art for both products was released, created by artist Ralph Horsley, whose credits include work on Dungeons & Dragons, Magic:  The Gathering, and Talisman. The contents of the two titles have not yet been announced.

Yesterday, Cubicle 7 announced a new boxed set for its Lord of the Rings role playing games focusing on the iconic underground region of Moria (see “Cubicle 7 Opens the Black Pit of Moria”).
