The fey-inspired role playing game Changeling: The Lost will return in a new edition from Onyx Path Publishing, releasing into the trade at the end of 2018.

In Changeling:  The Lost Second Edition, the characters are people who have been uprooted from their mundane lives and shown the strange and magical world that exists beyond the “Hedges” that separate reality as we know it from the land of the “Gentry.”  Once there, they have been modified to suit the whims of their “Keepers,” before finally escaping back into their world.  Now they must contend with the effects of their captivity, and their knowledge of the world as it really is, as they try to find a place in Changeling society.

First published in 2007, Changeling has attracted a following thanks to its unusual setting that merges the everyday with the fantastic and its focus on interaction between characters.  The new edition of the game builds on the original, implementing feedback and updates from the game’s ten-year history.  The hardcover book will include more than 300 pages, with background on the setting, the “Courts” that form Changeling culture, and the worlds that they inhabit.  Rules for character creation and gameplay, using the Chronicles of Darkness rules (the system used in Onyx Path’s other titles, Vampire:  The Requiem, Werewolf:  The Forsaken, and Mage:  The Awakening) are included, along with setting-specific rules such as Hedge shaping and dream battles.

Onyx Path funded the production of Changeling:  The Lost 2nd Edition through a Kickstarter campaign that concluded last month.  The campaign attracted 2,500 backers, who pledged $166,290 to fund the project (an average of $66.52 per backer).

The MSRP for the book has not yet been announced.

Onyx Path has a license from White Wolf to produce games based on the World of Darkness line, including Changeling:  The Lost 2nd Edition, and their products are separate from White Wolf’s own titles (see “New Editions of ‘Vampire’ and ‘Werewolf’ RPGs”).
