C2E2 News -- During C2E2, VIZ Media announced a handful of new acquisitions.

Frankenstein: Junji Ito Story Collection includes the horror manga master Junji Ito’s interpretation of the Mary Shelley novel and the Oshikiri cycle, about a high school student whose home is connected to a haunted parallel world. The manga debuts in fall.

Juni Tiasen: Zodiac War is based on the popular anime about a battle royale among 12 fighters who take the form of the Chinese zodiac. The fall release is based on an original story by Nisioisin, and features story and art by Akira Akatsuki and character design by Hikaru Nakamura.

Viz will release two volumes of writer Jun Eishima’s NieR: Automata, based on the bestselling mecha video game about humans who use androids to fight the machines used by alien invaders. NieR: Automata: Long Story Short (Vol. 1) will be out in fall. NieR: Automata: Short Story Long (Vol. 2) will debut in Spring 2019.

These titles are in addition to the licenses VIZ announced during Anime Boston (see “VIZ Welcomes Spring With a Bounty of Manga, Art Books, Anime”).
