Striker Entertainment, the licensing and marketing agency behind a raft of geek properties including The Walking Dead, Angry Birds, Five Nights at Freddy’s, Preacher, Tick, and Exploding Kittens, has signed a first look deal with Blumhouse Television for television development. Striker will source properties for the deal from "less traditional areas, but areas with growing communities of fans that have potential for traditional media exploitation," according to the announcement, which sounds like geek culture properties to us.
Blumhouse Television was formed last year to finance and produce original scripted and unscripted "dark" genre programming. One of the first announced projects was a TV series based on The Purge film series.
Striker envisions property development that incorporates consumer products at the beginning of the process, according to Striker’s Russell Binder. "Often time consumer products are an afterthought when films and television series are being developed, but ultimately, they can play a huge role in marketing these projects, and in generating ancillary revenue and building community," he said. "We want to employ a more strategic approach from the beginning that anticipates fan engagement."
